to the east of the building there's the praia das flechas (flechas beach).

to the west of boa viagem, extending alongside the coast, is the milton tavares de souza avenue, the main access to the 'ilha da boa viagem' proper.

there's also a small bridge linking the island to the shore to allow an easier access.

the island is known to be occupied since the middle 17th century.
