at this time a small chapel was built over the rocky peak and named 'capela da nossa senhora da boa viagem'.

this started the history of spiritual importance given to the island.

the chapel itself was rebuilt a few times, in order to maintain it useable. the current owners and the last responsible for these restoration works are the 'escoteiros do mar', the 'boy scouts of the sea'.

they themselves inherited the installations from the 'sociedade protetora dos homens do mar', the 'protector society of the men of the sea', in the 1930s.
