the island is known to be occupied at the early 18th century. at the time there was a small chapel within it, which was eventually converted in the current local church.

the local population also engaged in the sort economic activities available, it is even known that a slaughterhouse existed there, as well as some herds.

even so it would be through the naval industry that the island became known.

during the early 20th century several dockyards were built around the island, expanding on the pre-existent docks.
