currently conceição boasts an important set of shipyards, like the camorin and the stx brazil offshore, as well as an important center of fishing activity.

furthermore the island also has an important local population and some working establishments, like schools, bars and restaurants. there's even a local slum, the 'morro do mickey'.

the main land accesses to this island are the bridge rio - niterói, connected to the western shore of conceição by a smaller bridge, and the mauro neves street at the south.
