the closest neighborhoods, all part of niterói itself, are barreto, santana, and ponta d'areia.

around conceição are still some other important islands and locations - close by, to the west, just under the niterói- rio bridge, is the caju island, another important industrial center which contains part of the mauá shipyards.

to the north there's the santa cruz island. not as severely transformed as the neighboring landmasses, santa cruz still presents some tree covering, and contains a small chateau on its highest point. it also features a small harbor.
