one of the most famous is the
steamer 'buenos aires,' which ran aground on the island in 1890.
the remains of
this and other ships still rest on the seafloor around rasa, and
for this reason it is a very popular diving spot.
though the waters around the island are open
to fishing, kayaking or the aforementioned diving, the brazilian
navy maintains a garrison on ilha rasa, and disembarking at the
island is only possible through the acquisition of permission
from the proper authorities.
