laje da redonda, also nicknamed as banco do brasil among local fishermen, is an uninhabited islet off the coast of rio de janeiro, near ipanema.

the 'banco do brasil' nickname refers to the abundance of fish around the islet, making it very popular among the fishermen who jokingly compared it to one of the most important banks in brazil.

though some consider it part of the cagarra island chain, this association is disputed by others - for example, though it is not listed on many of the cagarra islands' websites, it is preserved as part of the national monument of the cagarra islands.

regardless of its official designation, laje is in fact located near the archipelago, and shares similar characteristics with the other islands.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
