at a glance

ilhota grande ('big islet,' relative to the other islets in the chain) is part of the cagarra archipelago, which is a group of uninhabited islands located directly south of ipanema beach in rio de janeiro.

the other members are ilhota piquena, ilha cagarra, ilha das palmas, ilha comprida, ilhotas da cagarra and laje da cagarra.

despite its name, grande is too small to have full island status, and because of the limits imposed by its size it is one of the least-visited of the cagarras.

yet, this is not to say that the islet is without attractions. arrow-back      arrow-forward
