How changes in the urban landscape can alter the 'suburban identity' is considered as a topic of historical significance at present in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The spatial area under examination is the neighborhood of Campinho, located in the Northern area of the city, where TransCarioca generated controversy over the demolition of houses which had previously been protected by the municipality. Historiographical research and data from newspapers have been used to guide discussion about how the suburban area of the city is changing and the consequences of this transformation on the daily life of the population. |
