The neighborhood contains the Igreja Presbiteriano Thomaz Coelho, or the 'Presbyterian Church of Thomaz Coelho', as well as a large supermarket and two quality bakeries which are popular amongst locals - Flor Bancários and Cabral.

The area is most famous for the Samba school it gave birth to, called em cima da hora, which translates as 'Just in Time', as well as having been home to some famous social figures, such as the famous journalist, Sergio Cabral, the dancer and choreographer, Carlinhos de Jesus, and the football coach, Jair Pereira.
