at a glance

To the south, access avenues go directly to the Caju neighborhood and in the middle of the island there are routes to the Complexo da Maré, or 'Maré Complex'. To the north, several bridges make contact with Ilha do Governador and the important Aeroporto Internacional Antonio Carlos Jobim, or 'António Jobim international airport'. These access routes endow the island with a central position in the cityscape.

The neighborhood also contains a small isthmus to the east where a few installations of the Brazilian armed forces were placed, surrounding the ancient Jesuit Church. This church was built in Bom Jesus in the 18th century and is an important relic of colonial Brazil. arrow-back      arrow-forward
