the property on which the mill is located was eventually divided. through it passed the estrada do porto velho de irajá (old port of irajá road) and in 1946 the avenida brasil (brazil avenue) opened, with the result, that there is now direct access to the new rodovia rio-petrópolis (rio-petrópolis, highway).

in the late sixties, a new housing complex was built in cidade alta (high city) as part of the relocation project of the favela praia do pinto (painted beach slum). in its place however five new new slums have emerged including divinéia, cambuci, pica-pau, serra pelada and chega mais. these are part of the complexo da cidade alta (high city complex). cordovil has the distinction of being the bairro closest to baía guanabara (guanabara bay).
