The Cintra Vidal Station was built in 1898 in honor of Professor Cintra Vidal who owned and ran the first school in the region. This station is still an important access point to the neighborhood. In the 1950s the district enjoyed strong trade and major industries, which led to the creation of an association called Centro Comercial e Industrial (CCIP), or 'Commercial and Industrial Center', which has since been transformed into a club. The Viaduto Cristóvão Colombo, or 'Christopher Columbus Viaduct', was built in 1965, which led to further development in the region. In the 1990s, the implantation of the Linha Amarelo, or 'Yellow Line' Highway, added a final important access route to the region, contributing further to its growth. There is disgreement regarding the origin of the neighborhood's name. Some accounts hold that the ancient square contained a fountain where travelers brought their horses to drink, surrounded by small 'pilões', or 'pillars', used to tie up the animals. Another version holds that the name comes from a large mansion that was located near the Parish, which had several pillars embellishing its façade. | penha | |||
