at a glance

The Sítio Roberto Burle Marx, in Barra de Guaratiba, is an extraordinary landscaping achievement, boasting an area of 360 thousand meters squared and a collection of more than three thousand and five hundred species, it was named Patrimônio Cultural Brasileiro (a Brazilian cultural heritage site) in 1985.

Ornamental and exotic plants, most of which originate from the collections and expeditions made by Burle Marx himself, make up the botanical collection of the Sítio - The landscaper was accustomed to making frequent searches for species in the most varied ecosystems, always hunting for plants of ornamental interest.

arguably, the artist who has left the most visible impact on rio is roberto burle marx (1909-1994) - world renowned for his artistic vision and recognized by the american institute of architects as the 'real creator of the modern garden', some of his better-known projects in rio include aterro do flamengo (the largest park in the city) and the signature black and white wave-tiled sidewalks that line copacabana beach. arrow-back      arrow-forward
