The Açude do Camorim, or 'Camorim Reservoir', is a large catchment of water encircled by mountains, and is the product of a dam designed by Sampaio Corrêa, and built by Henrique de Novaes in 1908. A little further along from the reservoir, is the Cachoeiras do Camorim, or 'camorim waterfalls', and this oasis, along with the reservoir, forms one of the most stunningly beautiful locations in the Rio.

At the border with jacarepaguá are the pavilions of Rio Centro, or 'Rio Center', the largest  convention centre in latin america, where important exhibitions, fairs, shows and events take place. since it opened in 1977 it has hosted such prestigious events as the UN conference on sustainable development (UNCSD) and the book biennal of rio de janeiro.
