at a glance

In 1968, the area was recognized as a city in its own right, but it is nonetheless simultaneously considered a neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. It stands out for having developed somewhat independently from the rest of the city. It is the most extensive region in the city of Rio.

The neighborhood's long and rich history has gifted it with several historic buildings, including the Igreja Nossa Senhora do Desterro, and the Paróquia de Sant'Ana, or 'Parish of Saint Ana'. There are also a sprinkling of cultural establishments, including the Teatro Arthur Azevedo, or 'Arthur Azevedo Theater', which hosts its very own Orquestra Sinfónica Jovem de Campo Grande, or 'Symphonic Youth Orchestra of Campo Grande'.

The region also boasts diverse commerce which has expanded significantly in recent years. There are several malls and bars where locals gather and interact with lively enthusiasm, filling the region with a pleasant buzz. Agriculture also continues to flourish, with the cultivation of bananas, oranges, mangos, avocados and cassava. arrow-back      arrow-forward
