Two seemingly different processes, amongst others, emerged: segregation and decentralization. However, when considering the boom in growth and the accumulation of capital, it becomes clear that they constitute a simultaneity, as they are concomitant parts of the natural process of capital growth. This part of the investigation began with the concepts of center and centrality, taking as an example the neighborhood of Campo Grande, located in the West Zone of the Rio municipality. It takes as its period of temporal analysis the period comprising the 1990s until the present (2012). the objective is to analyze centrality, giving as examples commercial activities and services and the availability of public transport. It also discusses different meanings attributed to the above concepts and establishes a relationship with Harvey's consideration (2006) about absolute space, relative space and relational space. It highlights the internal differences in the neighborhood in order to identify the profound changes that are happening, principally in the housing sector which is increasing internal fragmentation and emphasizing centrality. |
