at a glance

Their nucleus of activities has considerable youth participation, a fact which reveals a kind of leadership which, before the community pacification process by the UPP (Unidade de Polícia Pacificadora), had been latent or was ignored by institutions and local socio-cultural programs. In the nucleus of audiovisual production, youths show a sharp preoccupation with rescuing the memories and identities that constitute the history of the land. With this strong wish imprinted on the views and projects of the young people, Casa de Cultura can be considered, from a sociological and geographical perspective, to have played a significant role in the creation of strong affiliations and cultural assemblies, with a two-pronged aim: institutional strengthening and cultural promotion in the neighborhood and in other contexts and places. The youth assemblies in the Casa follow trends in the lives of young people in urban centers: the intensive use of technology, the consumption of varied images, cultural dialogue and the adoption of one or more aesthetic tastes. arrow-back      arrow-forward
