Presented by the Revista Crítica Histórica - Universidade Federal de Alagoas, the study A cidade está chegando: Expansão urbana na Zona Rural do Rio de Janeiro (1890-1940) - The city is arriving: Urban Expansion in the Rural Zone of Rio de Janeiro (1890-1940), by  Leonardo Soares dos Santos. In this work the author analyzes the urban transformation of the rural zone of Rio de Janeiro city, between 1890 and 1940. This area, called Sertão Carioca, was taken over by economic groups linked to real estate who affected rural activities and customs through the valorization of land. This study uses projects, letters and petitions of political authorities, civil services and common citizens as sources of information.
