at a glance

on the other side of the region, near the beach, is the pedra de guaratiba sub-neighborhood, home to some popular restaurants, like the amendoeira, which focuses on healthy, sustainable food options, with an environmental theme.

among the most popular sub-neighborhoods within guaratiba is the ilha de guaratiba (guaratiba island) - mostly a rural area, it accounts for the hode luã resort - a little further north there's the mato alto road, which is flanked by a few of the local touristic hotspots and restaurants, like the historical church of our lady da aparecida and the mato alto bakery.

According to some accounts in this area there was a land owner named William, and his employees at the time were portuguese speakers and had trouble to pronounce his name correctly, calling him "Wilha" de Guaratiba, which led this sub neighborhood to be called by this name until today.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
