Presented by the Universidade Federal Fluminense, the study O jogo de verde com branco, Lúcio Costa em defesa do Plano Piloto da Barra da Tijuca e Baixada de Jacarepaguá, by Vera F. Rezende, (The game of green with white, Lúcio Costa in defense of the Plano Piloto (Pilot Plan) of Barra da Tijuca and Baixada de Jacarepaguá), is the result of a study entitled, 'Acompanhamento e análise dos impactos gerados pelo processo de urbanizaçăo em curso da Barra da Tijuca e Baixada de Jacarepaguá no município do Rio de Janeiro', (The study and analysis of the impacts of the process of urbanization in the cases of Barra da Tijuca and Baixada de Jacarepaguá in the municipal of Rio de Janeiro), coordinated by the author and Gerônimo Leităo, who collected material, the pilot plan, publications, official documents and the opinions of the architect Lúcio Costa. Barra alone contains 82km˛ of urban space, or 10% of the total surface of the city of Rio, previously it represented around 20% of the urban area of the city while Baixada de Jacarepaguá, which includes Barra, covered a surface of 160km˛, constituting approximately 25% of the potentially urbanized rio.
