at a glance

the parque municipal ecológico de marapendi is located in barra da tijuca, in the west zone of rio de janeiro, it spans nearly 250 hectares and includes the reserva biológica de marapendi, the lagoa de marapendi, and the gorgeous praia da reserva ecológica.

70 hectares of the protected reserve have been set aside for research, along with a special area for walking, running, and working out - the area is known for its outstanding natural beauty and abundance of wildlife and fauna, eco-tourism booms in the park as a result of many endangered species of plant and wildlife that thrive here.

within the park, the marapendi lagoon is separated from the atlantic ocean by a thin strip of land, and it is also a popular site for sailing and windsurfing.
