at a glance

a few hills which descend directly into the ocean follow right after, and then there are four smaller beaches. in fact, grumari is home to the last completely wild beaches in rio de janeiro: praia do perigoso, praia do meio, praia funda, and praia do inferno. these beaches, only reachable via trail, remain some of the most sough-after spots for nature lovers and hikers in rio.

the inferno beach and the funda beach, located closest to grumari beach, are also the most difficult to reach due to the rough accesses trail. the middle beach (praia do meio) follows right after, and then the landscape turns into the ocean in a small isthmus which ends in the peculiar-looking turtle rock, with dangerous beach (perigoso beach) at its base. all of these beaches present good waves which are very popular with surfers, although in some cases the locations can be quite dangerous and difficult to access. arrow-back      arrow-forward
