avenida henrique dumont was named in honour of one of the largest french-brazilian coffee growers of his time, henrique dumont (1832- 1892). considered one of the four kings of coffee, he gained this title at a time in brazilian history, when coffee was a principal export - his farms were known to be the most modern in south america.

dumont, also a trained engineer, was commissioned in 1867 by the state government of minas gerais to build a 25 hp steamboat. he was the father of the famous alberto santos dumont, who was the inventor of the airplane and also an important icon for brazilians. avenida henrique dumont was named in 1919 in memory of this great coffee grower and engineer.
