rua paul redfern, beginning at rio de janeiro's trendiest and
most prized beach,
praia de ipanema, was named after an american
aviator, paul redfern (1902-1927) who died in a 1927 plane crash
whilst on route to rio de janeiro.
whilst still at high school, redfern built a glider type biplane
from cardboard and spare parts and flew it around his school's land,
and later built a small biplane with a small wwi aircraft engine -
once he graduated from high school redfern became a
professional
aviator, establishing the first commercial airfield in
columbia.
