in august 1927, at twenty-five years of age, redfern attempted a flight in a single engine monoplane from brunswick, georgia in the usa to rio de janeiro in brazil, a distance of 4,600 miles, in effort to break the record, which had been set by charles lindbergh the previous may, when he flew from the usa to paris.

unfortunately redfern never arrived in brazil and neither he nor his plane was ever found - in 1928, a year after this ill-fated flight, the brazilian government named one of ipanema's exclusive streets in redfern's honour.
