avenida rainha elizabeth da bélgica,  runs from copacabana beach at atlantic avenue to ipanema beach at avenida vieira souto, and is a well visited avenue amongst locals and tourists alike, in light of its position as a direct connection between the beaches of copacabana and ipanema.

before receiving its current name, the avenue was called rua valadares, in honour of mayor henrique valadares (1893-1895), and before that it was named rua dr. pires de almeida after the baron of ipanema.
