at a glance

At the heart of the neighborhood is Praça Professor Virgínia Cidade, or 'Professor Virgínia Cidade Square', named after the highly acclaimed teacher of the first regulated school in Brazil, set up by the penultimate ruler of the Brazilian empire, Dom Pedro II.

To the north is Igreja São Jerónimo, or the 'Church of Saint Jerome', and Praça Betty Quadros Coimbra. There are also a number of restaurants, such as the Barriga Pizzeria, which translates as 'big belly Belly Pizeria'.

Furthermore, there are several local state schools, including EC Marshal John Baptist de Mattos high school, named in honor of the first black Marshal in the history of Brazil.  arrow-back     arrow-forward
