Brasilia, which also had its master plan developed by Lúcio Costa, and was inaugurated in 1960, was constructed around the ideals of modernistic urbanization and became a reference in the field - This work analyzes the urbanization process in the area of Barra of Tijuca and Baixada de Jacarepaguá with regards to their formal, functional and environmental elements, and aims to investigate the consequences of the master plan after three decades.

Presented by the Universidade Estadual de Campinas, the study Processo de ocupação urbana da Barra da Tijuca (RJ): Problemas ambientais, conflitos sócio-ambientais, impactos ambientais urbanos, (Process of the urban occupation of Barra da Tijuca (RJ): Environmental problems, socio-environmental conflicts, urban environmental impacts), by Gabriela Silva,  studies the urban occupation of the Region of Barra da Tijuca, in metropolitan Rio, since the 1970's, based on the urban project of the architect and urban designer Lúcio Costa, revealing that the region is an iconic urban space for huge public and private capital investments, and has thus achieved important social and economical development.
