at a glance

in the 1960s and 1970s several wealthier citizens established themselves in the lands of the region, attracted by its rural calm - today these larger mansions, and even some which survived the passing of the centuries, still exist amidst the more modern urbanizations in the region. the main attractions are, by far the natural wonders of this still very rural area. the pedra branca state park encompasses the hills to the east, but there are also several trails and beaches all around.

across the shore to the east, there's the turtle rock which separates the neighborhood from the adjacent grumari. the whole southern coastline is a sequence of rocky cliffs until the picão rock, and then comes the small corner beach. a little further north there's the wider extension of the guaratiba beach itself - a wide mangrove region then follows, filled with its own natural wonders. although the referred beaches are the most important, there are also a few smaller wild ones, of difficult access. in addition to the wonderful vistas, the neighborhood also provides several hotels for visitants, like the le relais de marambaia and the pousada do sérgio. alongside them are several restaurants, exemplified by the bira and the tia penha. arrow-back      arrow-forward
