on one side of the avenue there is a pathway that goes all around the lagoon as well as a cycle track which is used by cyclists, rollerbladers, skateboarders and runners - there is a tennis and volleyball courts available for hire along with paddle boats by the lagoa and one can find caiçaras, a country club for members, on a small island off the avenue.

a number of parks are located along this attractive avenue such as the beautiful parque da catacumba, an ecological reserve (formerly a favela) full of interesting statues and offering some adventure sports, and parque de cantagalo, the most popular location for the annual inauguration of the lagoa christmas tree - avenida epitácio pessoa also has numerous shops and services located along it.
