avenida vieira souto is a major avenue of rio de janeiro, located in the south of the city, and it is known to have the highest cost per square meter of latin america - the avenue is in front of ipanema beach, bathed by the atlantic ocean.

the avenida vieira souto was so named in 1922 in honor of the engineer rafael luiz vieira souto, at the time the street only housed 45 buildings, 10 stores, 32 houses, three under construction, and in the same year the college of st. paul was opened - out of the buildings of avenida vieira souto, all but two were only or mostly residential.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
