the street, located between
ipanema beach and the beautiful
Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, is heavily lined with trees and houses
with a mixture
of old buildings and modern, luxurious condominiums - it is a largely
residential street and one of ipanema's quieter streets with just a
small number of shops, restaurants, educational institutes and other
services dotted along it.
originally opened by the baron of ipanema in 1894, the street was
named in 1917 in honour of brazilian engineer dr. carlos augusto
nascimento silva (1855-1924) who was the first director of the
engineering directorate in the republic and director of works and
transportation.
