at a glance

in 1924, this mall was one of the largest textile factories in the country of brazil, called the national company of new fabrics america.  the factory was converted to be a mall in 1995. it maintains its original building structure and architecture. it is a popular  location for leisure and shopping, but it is also still considered a historical monument.

the district of del castilho was founded in 1981 when it belonged to the real estate property of dom josé joaquim castelo branco. branco was rio de janeiro's first catholic bishop. he originally purchased this plantation from the jesuits as farmland which produced some of brazil's key crops, includng sugar and coffee.
