the arrival of the railroad in the late eighteenth century, during a time of industrial revolution, contributed to the transformation of the land into the district it is today. in fact, the two rail lines that ran through the district came to be named 'del castilho,' which is how the neighborhood received its name. in memory of state history and portuguese heritage, the head and home of dom josé joaquim castelo branco have been preserved. the house upon which the district of del castilho was established, now stands as a landmark in the heart of a bustling urban area. |
