This study has analyzed following beaches according to their oil spill susceptibility, such as slope and sediment size: Bica, Engenhoca and Freguesia, located in Ilha do Governador, guanabara bay.

Furthermore it contains an oil percolation experiment using sediment samples of each beach which confirmed Engenhoca to be less susceptible to oil spills due to its below average sediment size, 0,375 mm.

This experiment showed that the oil at Engenhoca beach reached only 30% of the depth that was reached by oil at oter beaches. Also this study stresses environmental monitoring issues such as oil spill remediation technologies and beach cleanup procedures.
